Parade Information and Rules.
The San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association invites you to participate in the 52nd annual Swallows Day Parade.

All entries must fit a Competitive Class Classification. The parade order and staging information will be sent to accepted entries ten (10) days prior to the parade.

Entries must be received no later than March 1, 2010
* $20.00 late fee after March 2, 2010 *

Submission of this application does not constitute acceptance into the parade. We will accept applications, as needed, to properly balance the parade and stay within the acceptable length of the parade.

 

ENTRIES
Non-profit entries: No charge
Commercial Entries: $50.00


Commercial entries may carry the NAME ONLY of the sponsoring firm or organization. The $50.00 entry fee is required with submission of the application. Banners and banner carriers are the responsibility of the participant. Please make check payable to: SJC Fiesta Association.

This parade is one of the nations largest "Non-Motorized" parades. Motorized vehicles (wheel chairs, scooters etc.), motors and/or generators of any kind are not permitted. Floats must be either horse or hand drawn. There will be no exceptions.

JUDGING AND AWARDS

This is an adjudicated parade. Decisions of the Judges will be final. With the exception of the equestrian units, all competitive units adjudicated by SCSBOA must maintain a pace of 220' per minute through the competition area. Competitive units must not stop in front of the SCSBOA adjudication stand.

Band Judging: Will be by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). Bands, Drum Majors, Auxiliary Units, Solo Majorettes, Majorettes, Percussion, Marching Units will be judged in line of march.

Equestrian Judging: Will be by the Profession Equestrian Parade Judge (CSHA). Equestrians will be pre-judged at 8:00 a.m.

Awards: Trophies / plaques are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in categories A, B, and C. Sweepstakes Trophy will be awarded for best band unit. Equestrian horse drawn, and hand drawn float categories will receive plaques for 1st and 2nd except those marked with an asterisk (*) which receive belt buckles. Equestrian Awards will be presented at Stone Field, all other awards will be presented at Historical Town Center (across from the Mercado) approximately. Both awards occur approximately 30 minutes after the end of the parade.

PARADE RULES
for the 52nd Swallows' Day Parade March 20, 2010

  1. Failure to follow Parade Officials instructions shall be cause for disqualification and no awards will be issued.

  2. At no time is any person or unit allowed to handout or throw anything along the parade route. This creates a potentially dangerous situation between spectators and horses.

  3. All units must be checked in by 10:00 a.m. Late check-in will be subject to disqualification and may not participate. The Parade will start promptly at 11:00 a.m.

  4. Forward motion must be maintained throughout the parade route. Entries must remain in assigned position through out the entirety of the parade.

  5. Prior to entering the line up the Parade Application and Liability release form must be signed by each individual participant.

  6. Band directors must have in their possession parent release liability forms. The Parade committee must approve all entries.

  7. Any participant causing the delay of the parade or interfering with the orderly management of the Parade is subject to disqualification.

  8. Those under the influence or have possession of Alcoholic beverages and/or illegal substances are prohibited in the assembly area and during the parade. Violators will be removed immediately.

  9. Decorations must be fireproof. Balloons and noisemakers are prohibited. Political or controversial entries are prohibited

  10. Participants are prohibited to discharge firearms, sirens, or create loud noises, along the parade route.

  11. All participants must be uniformed, costumed or appropriately attired.

  12. Any group with children will be permitted to march ONLY if accompanied by one adult for every 10 children. Limit of 50 in each group (5 adults). Note: 50 limit does not apply to bands.

  13. The Parade Committee shall remove any animal or entry they deem unfit for the safety of the Parade.

  14. The Parade Committee accepts no responsibility for false statements made by applicants or entrants.

  15. Distribution or throwing of merchandise or articles by any participant is not permitted throughout the line of march. This includes candy, trinkets etc… Any such activity will result in immediate disqualification.

  16. Motors, Motorized vehicles (wheel chairs / scooters) and generators are NOT permitted.
